SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Center for Information Warfare (CIWT) Detachment Goodfellow held their Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day ceremony at Goodfellow Air Force Base Dec. 7, in honor of the 76th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Goodfellow Air Force Base began the day with snow flurries and a gloomy sky reflecting the somber events leading to the United States’ involvement in World War II. The morning’s events, led by Cryptologic Technician (Technical) 1st Class Asia Foster, commenced with opening words by the CIWT Detachment Goodfellow Officer in Charge, Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Allen, and was held at the base’s Fire Academy, home to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit.

Lt. Cmdr. Allen shared the significance of the historical attack on Pearl Harbor as the event that truly united America. “With the U.S. fresh in memories of the toils from the Great War, this attack was the catalyst thrusting us into war,” said Lt. Cmdr. Allen. “It was a day that spurred the average citizen into exhibiting a greater sense of patriotism and support for the nation as we joined the war to end all wars.”

The ceremony’s guest speaker Lt. Col. (ret.) John Muckleroy, commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post in San Angelo, recalled the morning of the day that will live in infamy.

The ceremony was a joint service affair with all branches represented in the audience. Students from both intelligence and fire schools attended, as well as Delayed Entry Program (DEP) Navy recruits from the local San Angelo recruiting station. One DEP recruit stated, “it was eye opening to hear about prior service members’ experiences from when they served and makes me proud I joined the U.S. Navy.”

CIWT Detachment Goodfellow, as part of the Center for Information Warfare Training, delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services, enabling optimal performance of information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
