NCODP sheds light on TAGD innovations

CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Noncommissioned officers from the Active and Reserve components of the Army met with the Adjutant General Directorate Sergeant Major, Dec. 1 at the Zone 1 Chapel in support of the Army’s Noncommissioned Officer Development Program.
The meeting focused on the how TAGD functioned as well as changes to programs throughout it, said Sgt. Maj. Ray Rodriguez, TAGD Sergeant Major.
Rodriguez explained the chain of command and core functions of TAGD and how they affect readiness and the future of the “total Army.”
“Human Resource Command has four directorates, TAG being one of them,” said Rodriguez. “We have 1100 folks in TAG, 75 percent of them being civilian and we take care of Soldiers, Families, retirees and veterans.”
Another major talking point was the importance of leaders informing their subordinates about changes and utilizing the new programs that are being developed.
“As a leader, they need to know where to go, not just by asking others but actually knowing so they can get the information for Soldiers and Families,” said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez spoke about the Evaluation Entry System, the Army's forms system for officer evaluation reports and noncommissioned officer evaluation reports, said Sgt. Shawn Antonucci, religious affairs NCO, Area Support Group-Kuwait.
“I look forward to seeing them update the EES system for NCOERs and OERs,” said Antonucci, “that will be a lot more user-friendly.”
Going forward, the NCOs will train Soldiers on new systems such as the Integrated Personnel and Pay System – Army, said Rodriguez.
“As an NCO, I need to reach out to the new privates that are coming in and make sure that they learn as much as they can about these new systems and become familiar with them,” said Antonucci.
The IPPS-A is scheduled to launch in 2018.
