Afghan Army and Commandos fight, Taliban loses fighters and land in Kunduz
Supported with armored vehicles from the 20th Afghan National Army Division along with Afghan National Police and the Afghan Local Police, Commandos from Afghan’s 10th Special Operations Kandak killed 22 Taliban during fighting in Imam Sahib district, Kunduz province, Afghanistan, Dec. 7, 2017. An additional 10 insurgents were wounded, and 16 fighting positions were destroyed.
The Afghan National Defense and Security Defense Forces launched this large scale clearing operation in Kunduz after the end of the traditional “fighting season”. The ANDSF have continued to apply military pressure on the Taliban. The Afghan forces succeeded in denying the Taliban the insurgent’s their stated objectives for 2017 which was the capture of provincial district centers.
“We're going to win," stated Gen. John Nicholson, NATO Resolute Support commander on Nov. 28.
When discussing the future of the Taliban, Nicholson said, “Their choices are to reconcile, live in irrelevance, or die.”
