    122nd Fighter Wing

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Chief Master Sgt. Michael C. May has been named the new Command Chief of the 122nd Fighter Wing, at the Indiana Air National Guard Base in Fort Wayne, Ind. Chief May assumes the position of Command Chief on Dec. 3, 2017, from the outgoing Chief Master Sgt. Christine A. Hutchins who served in the position for over three years.

“I am genuinely honored and humbled to be back in a flying unit at one of the best fighter wings on the planet,” said May. “I’m ready to do whatever I can to help out.”

“My favorite aspect of getting into leadership roles has been helping people,” said May. “The mission comes first, but in order to make the mission we have to motivate people to come to work empowered to make the mission happen.”

Chief May brings a wealth of experience to the 122nd Fighter Wing, transferring from the 181st Intelligence Wing where he served as the Superintendent for the 181st Mission Support Group. He began his career at the 181st as a maintainer, serving as a Munitions Systems Specialist for 16 years and has a total time in service of 25 years.

“The absolute truth is that every job out there is the most important job,” said May. “Without each and every job on base, we would not have the ability to put bombs on target downrange at any given time and place.”

“I believe we need to be focusing on the mission at hand and readiness to ensure that we are able to go out and win no matter where we are tasked to go,” said May. “Focusing on ensuring we have the readiness to accomplish that task is priority one.”

Chief May has deployed in support of Operation Southern Watch, Operation Northern Watch and Operation Enduring Freedom. His most memorable deployment was to Turkey shortly after 9/11 because of the gravity the attacks gave to the mission at hand.

“I want to make sure we start looking at what this outstanding unit has been doing to accomplish its very effective rating for so many years,” said May. “We can learn from that, and then focus on improving to an even greater extent."

“I am incredibly honored to come here and become a Blacksnake,” said May.
