CAMP MURRAY, Wash. – Monday, Nov. 20, 2017 was a big day for some members of the Washington National Guard. Thousands of sports fans packed CenturyLink Field for the Salute to Service game where the Seattle Seahawks NFL team honored all the local branches of the military as well as many veterans in an evening full of military celebrations.

Many people in attendance were themselves current or former service members. One man by the sideline proudly wore his Cavalry Stetson and Purple Heart.

Featured in all of this was a diverse group of service members from the Washington National Guard.

Before the game, soldiers and airmen from the 10th Civil Support Team worked with their state and federal partners to monitor the stadium for radiological threats.

Closer to kickoff members of the 133rd Army Band, convened as the rock band Full Metal Racket, pumped-up crowds of people waiting to enter the stadium.

“Sea!” chanted singer Staff Sgt. Joseph Castilleja into the microphone.

    “Hawks!” responded the crowd.

As the band begins to play crowd favorites like “Sweet Home Alabama” the crowd cheers some more and spirits are high for the game.

But the centerpiece of the display came at halftime when detachments from Washington’s Army and Air National Guard represented their respective services on the field for all to see. As they marched onto the field, in tandem with detachments from the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, they proudly displayed the colors of their branch. An announcer thanked them, and all other current and former service members for their service.

As they marched off field, the stadium cheered.
