185th Air Refueling Wing, Iowa Air National Guard

Just in time for the holiday, fifteen members of the Iowa Air Guard’s 132nd Wing from Des Moines, Iowa returned to the Sioux City, Iowa airbase on Tuesday. The guardsmen have been in Puerto Rico where they were providing support for the Hurricane Maria security mission since late September.

The Airman caught a ride home to Iowa on a KC-135 flown by Sioux City’s 185th Air Refueling Wing where they returned on Tuesday night. From Sioux City the Airman traveled to Des Moines were they will be able to spend time with friends and family just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

While in Puerto Rico, the Des Moines Airmen worked with Security Forces members form the 185th Air Refueling Wing who needed to return to Sioux City late last month in order to prep for a pending overseas deployment.

The Iowa guard members from both units were providing security at the San Juan airport. The Iowa contingency was a part of providing security for both the President and Vice President of the United Sates while they visited San Juan in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
