The families of Afghan Commandos from the villages surrounding Camp Commando, Kabul gather each Monday at the installation's medical clinic to receive essential items from Capt. Zarmena, the Afghan officer in charge of family readiness for Afghan National Army Special Operations Command.
“This bolsters the support for Commando families as their fathers are on the front lines fighting,” said a mentor from the NATO-led Special Operations Advisory Group. “Allowing them to have basic necessities helps ease their living conditions a little and strengthen the community.”
The goods donated include food items and school supplies. As winter approaches, the local communities donations to the families include blankets and clothes to help families stay a little warmer as the temperature starts to drop.
“The dentist is a volunteer who comes in ever Monday as well to give check-ups even though he has to bring all of his own equipment since there isn’t any in the clinic itself,” the mentor said, “Thankfully new upgrades have been approved to increase the clinic’s capability.”
The medical clinic now features running water, a playground and recently installed doors and windows. These upgrades provide the professional, year-round ability needed to provide dental and medical care to the Commandos and their families.
