FORT Carson, Colorado – Leaders of the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, conducted a three-day reintegration training at Fort Carson, Colorado, October 31 through November 2, 2017.

“The training provided company commanders the opportunity to be fully prepared to increase all aspects of readiness in their company formations,” said Col. Michael J. Simmering, the 3rd ABCT, 4th Inf. Div., commander. “All company commanders will be armed with the latest installation policies and procedures to allow them to effectively build readiness across all four components at home station.”

Due to incoming and outgoing personnel, Simmering wants to ensure his formation have the tools that they need in order to maintain overall readiness.

“A lot of the commanders are taking command for the first time,” said Capt. John Loft, the operations officer for the 3rd ABCT, 4th Inf. Div. “Colonel Simmering wanted to have a reintegration with all the resources Fort Carson has to offer. We had a variety of shops come in as well as installation resources. They include: legal, maintenance, Directorate of Public Works (DPW), range control, personnel etc. Each of the resources provided a short class on who they are, what they do, where they are located and their contact information.”

The leaders started off with a combined team building event that established standards and expectation for the Iron Brigade into the Fiscal Year 2018.

Other key tasks that were focused on: legal and medical processing, property book offices and procedures (standard operating procedures), training company commanders on key personnel procedures to enhance readiness and maintain discipline, trained on supply and inventory expectations for FY 18, and major training resource procedures (ranges, ammunition, miles).

“We went through some scenarios of common issues commanders encounter,” said Loft. “We had group discussions that the brigade commander participated in as well. He elaborated even more to ensure the commanders understand how to overcome common issues.”
Two of the main things discussed were training and readiness.

“Objective T and all the criteria of it, was one of the main things we talked about during the reintegration,” said Loft. “The Army measures unit readiness by looking at its personnel, equipment and training. This is a way for senior leaders to assess training levels across the Army. The goal of the entire training was to equip the commanders with resources, not necessarily the answers, but how to get the answers to ensure they maintain combat readiness.”
