Community Appreciation Day allowed local Korean community members from the areas surrounding Camp Humphreys an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the mission and equipment of U.S. Soldiers based there.

“The event served three main purposes,” said Col. Lance Calvert, commander, 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade 2nd Infantry Division, ROK-US Combined Division. “The first is to reinforce the strong bond and relationship that 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade and our Soldiers have with these cities and organizations. The second is to provide an opportunity for our Good Neighbors to meet our Soldiers in their work environment and see the equipment we use. And finally, to say thanks to our Good Neighbors for the genuine friendship and support they give to our Soldiers and Families as we have the opportunity to serve and live in Korea.”

Soldiers from the brigade were positioned at different static display stations set up throughout Camp Humphreys showcasing U.S. Army aircraft, vehicles and different military weapons systems. Soldiers explained and answered questions about the different functions and capabilities of the equipment while the Korean community members had an opportunity to take photos of themselves in the cockpit of the unit’s three airframes: the CH-47 Chinook, AH-64 Apache and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter.

The final event of the day was a dinner at the Flight Line Bar and Grill on Camp Humphreys. After the dinner, select community members were presented with Certificates of Appreciation for their contribution to the U.S. Army and the local Korean community.

“Our Soldiers live, work and play in your communities, serve alongside your formations, frequent your businesses, and participate in your organizations and events,” said Calvert. “Every time you welcome us with open arms it enriches our lives and our service in the Republic of Korea. You have given so much to the Talon Brigade and each of our Soldiers and Families. Today, it was our endeavor to return the favor."
