FORT STEWART, Ga. -- Staff Sgt. Terrence E. Grant, a career counselor assigned to 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, was recognized as the Marne Career Counselor of the Year during an awards ceremony held Oct. 5, at Fort Stewart, Ga.

The career counselors from across the division competed in an annual competition that measured a career counselor’s physical and mental aptitude.

“Three career counselors competed in this year’s event,” said Master Sgt. Takethia Branch, senior career counselor of 2nd ABCT. “Grant competed against the top counselors from 1st ABCT and 3rd Sustainment Brigade.”

“It was tough,” said Grant. “We have a great group of counselors here in the Marne Division, and they put up a good fight.”

Branch said Grant just graduated from the U.S. Army Recruiting and Retention School in June 2017 and has reenlisted 78 Soldiers since reporting to 2nd ABCT.Grant was also the first battalion counselor in 2nd ABCT to make the retention mission last quarter.

“He’s a natural,” she said. “It just makes sense that he represents the division in the XVIII Airborne Corps Career Counselor of the Year competition. I also believe that he can win the Department of the Army competition scheduled for next year.”

Grant said, “Winning the competition was the icing on the cake to being a counselor. I love showing Soldiers how to take control of their career. I want them to know about all the incentives and opportunities the Army offers for re-enlisting because they deserve it.”

Grant is scheduled to compete in the XVIII ABN Corps competition Nov. 14-17, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. If he wins, he will advance to the U.S. Army Forces Command competition later this year.
