The Battles Won Challenge (BWC) is a custom engagement platform anchored by a 53-foot trailer outfitted with Marine Corps branding conveying the Battles Won brand idea through experiential leadership, mental and physical challenges.

“The Battles Won Challenge is intended to give prospects and influencers tangible interaction with the physical and mental requirements of becoming a Marine,” said Capt. John R. Grady, the Marine Corps Recruiting Command brand activation officer. “This is done through the use of the various physical and mental challenges contained within the challenge.”

The BWC consists of six physical challenges and four mental challenges reinforcing what makes Marines different – their indomitable fighting spirit – and what it takes to earn the title. Obstacles include a cargo net climb, a rope climb, a mental agility lab and pull ups.

Each obstacle is designed to promote healthy competition while simultaneously educating participants and reinforcing the Marine Corps brand values of making Marines, fighting our nation’s battles and developing quality citizens.

The trailer’s exterior tested physical readiness and benchmark prospects against the standards that define Marine physical fitness, while the interior will provide interactive acuity challenges via gamified iPad experiences.

“We thought it was an excellent team building activity,” said Bryan Rooney, head men’s basketball coach at California State University East Bay. “More importantly, we have great respect and admiration for the service men and women of our country. We saw this as an opportunity to support our military.”

Once completed, participants’ scores will be posted on the Battles Won leaderboard, allowing them to compare with friends and teammates. Scores are based on speed, accuracy and performance, and will also be compared to those of Marines. Participants are also able to log in to the Battles Won Challenge website and not only see their scores, but also compare them to participants from across the nation.

The tour was comprised of 10-stops including Marine Week Detroit, Vanderbilt University, California State University East Bay, Tulane University and a Great American Rivalry Series Game at Rio Rancho High School in Rio Rancho, NM.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to get out of the normal workout routine and really challenge yourself both mentally and physically,” said Danielle Eckert, the spirit coordinator and head coach of Vanderbilt University Spirit Programs. “I think this was a way for our students and myself to test our limits and see what we are actually capable of.”
