Maj. Mary St Onge, 169th FAB chaplain opened the ceremony with an invocation.
“Be with the 169th Field Artillery Brigade Soldiers as they move forward to new endeavors and travel toward home. Be with the 75th Field Artillery Brigade leadership and Soldiers as they assume their mission as the Force Field Artillery Headquarters. And from the first round to the last, we ask that you make us tough as diamonds, and may we always be on target,” said St. Onge.
Col. Robert Davis, commander of the 169th FAB spoke of his pride and the professionalism he saw in his Soldiers throughout the deployment.
“One of the most important responsibilities of a leader is to build teams. Without a doubt, I could not have asked for a more capable, motivated, and driven group of men and women who consistently demonstrated a level of professionalism unlike anything I’ve seen in over 25 years of service,” Davis said.
As the 169th FAB redeploys back to Colorado, the 75th FAB from Fort Sill, Oklahoma will take over their mission in the Middle East.
Col. Steve Carpenter, 75th FAB commander, replaces Davis as the new Force Field Artillery Headquarters commander.
“Operation Spartan Shield reflects the unwavering and deep commitment of the United Sates to our partners in this region. Every country and every Soldier has a roll. I am confident we will do our part,” said Carpenter.
Carpenter also acknowledged the Soldier’s families and the significant roles they have throughout the deployment.
“It is important to recognize families for their love, dedication, energy and prideful commitment. They represent what is best about our Army and they are the true heroes,” concluded Carpenter.
