2nd Marine Aircraft Wing hosted a semiannual logistics symposium at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, Sept. 26, 2017.
The symposium brought logistical military occupational specialty-based Marines from MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina; MCAS New River, N.C., and MCAS Cherry Point.
“We’re trying to increase material readiness through a professional military education system,” said Maj. George Camia, the 2nd MAW Deputy of logistics.
The symposium taught the Marines different techniques and how to best handle and cooperate with the different logistical sections such as supply, maintenance, transportation, engineering and health services.
“With education and understanding we’re developing a quick reference guild,” said Camia. “It teaches non-logisticians to be able to learn how 2nd MAW works; the processes and procedures for requesting transportation, external support for maintenance contact teams and support teams from the Marine Logistics Groups. That’s how I think this training will improve mission accomplishment.”
The purpose of Marine aviation logistics squadrons within 2nd MAW is to provide guidance and direction to the Marine aircraft groups including maintenance for aircrafts, supply and equipment necessary to support 2nd MAW.
“[2nd MAW] has a lot of turnover with pilots from different billets, so this training helps them adjust,” said 1st Lt. James Elrod, a logistics officer assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14, Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2nd MAW. “They may need more assistance because they [primarily] fly, so the reason we’re here today is to assist them in processes like material readiness sustainment.
“I think it gives us as a MAW a better understanding of [the necessity of] movement of people and things to improve that material readiness and help sustain the fight where ever we need to,” said Elrod
