Task Force Knighthawk, 2-10 Assault Helicopter Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (LI), said farewell to Command Sgt. Maj. Ronnie B. Littler and welcomed their incoming senior enlisted advisor, Command Sgt. Maj. Walter T. Brown, during a Change of Responsibility ceremony at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Romania, on September 15.
Littler has been the Knighthawks’ senior enlisted advisor since April of 2016 and said it has been an honor serving in the battalion.
“I am proud to have been part of such a professional and capable unit,” Littler said. “The Soldiers of 2-10 AHB have been nothing short of magnificent, and I thank them for the experience that they have given me. There is no doubt in my mind that the Knighthawks will continue to be successful in all that they do.”
Littler will be moving on to his next assignment as senior enlisted advisor for 1-52 General Support Aviation Battalion, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, in Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and takes with him the lessons he learned during his time with 2-10 AHB.
“You have to be able to let leaders take care of leader business,” Littler said. “All too often, it is easy to take charge of a situation and do the work for others because you know you’ll get the product you want the first time. Holding leaders responsible builds better, stronger leaders.”
Command Sgt. Maj. Brown, who comes to 2-10 AHB from 602nd Aviation Support Battalion, 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, in Camp Humphreys, South Korea, said it’s a humbling experience to serve, mentor and lead Soldiers.
“Soldiers continue to motivate me each day, but it wasn’t always this way,” Brown said. “When I was younger my motivation began to morph. Initially, it was about being part of a team and promotions, but as my career progressed and responsibility kicked in, taking care of Soldiers became a way of life. It’s become more of a passion than just simply motivation.”
Brown went on to explain that he looks forward to building readiness within the battalion, with a special focus on developing a team mentality along the way.
“I pray that I’m able to assist my commander to ensure the Knighthawk Nation is trained in their craft, professional Soldiers at all times, and always ready now to conduct air assault missions wherever the Army needs them,” Brown said. “Above all, we plan on getting to this aforementioned point as a team.”
Speaking directly to his new Soldiers, Brown had some words of advice to share.
“Know who you are. Know that you represent more than yourself, it’s no longer just about you. You represent the Knighthawk Nation, your Company, and just as importantly, or maybe more importantly, you represent your family,” Brown said. “Every decision that you make has the potential to lift up or let down, encourage or disappoint, motivate or dissuade, so know your identity and who you are.”
Both individuals made a point to thank their family for the support that has assisted their successful careers in the U.S. Army.
Littler said that his father Peter Littler and stepmother Elaine Littler, of Florence, Kentucky, helped him straighten out his life as a teenager and set him on a path toward success.
“Also, my wife Sabrina is the only the reason I am able to be where I am today,” Littler said. “Her strength and resolve provides me not only the motivation but the ability to continue my service to this country.”
Brown said his family’s strong bonds and support continues to inspire and enable him each day.
“I have to thank my wife Dee, my three sons Travell, Malik, and Jaylin, and my daughter Lydia,” Brown said.
Brown assumes responsibility of Task Force Knighthawk as the battalion is nearing the conclusion of its rotational deployment to Europe. The battalion has been supporting U.S. Army Europe’s Operation Atlantic Resolve, which seeks to strengthen interoperability among NATO Allies and deter any foreign aggression in the region.
