MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. – Marines and spouses from the San Diego area gathered to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Lifestyle, Insights, Networking, Knowledge and Skills (LINKS) program at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, Sept. 8.
The LINKS program has been providing spouses and families on MCAS Miramar the opportunity to make valuable connections with career planners, chaplains and LINK mentors to assist in better understanding the military lifestyle.
“Installations across the Marine Corps are all celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the LINKS programs,” said Maria Lengerke, MCAS Miramar Family Readiness branch head. “We decided we were going to do a cake-cutting ceremony, which is a big piece of what happens at the end of a LINKS session or class.”
This event highlighted what the LINKS program has done for military spouses and their families, as well as recognized the civilian and active duty volunteers who keep the program running.
“LINKS volunteers make our program exceptional,” said Randi Salvati, a Marine Corps Family Team Building trainer at the air station. “Both military spouses and Marines give countless hours to ensure the military community is well informed about resources available to enhance their lifestyle.”
LINKS assists the military community by providing classes, training and a valuable network for families with helpful resources and the reassurance they are not alone.
“This program has spent 20 years empowering spouses with knowledge and allowing them to network,” said Lengerke. “This allows them to really take a dive into what life in the Marine Corps has to offer them.”
