The 101st brings together the local communities to showcase their wartime and unmatched air assault capabilities, fostering tighter community relationships.
Upon arriving to Fort Campbell, everyone was greeted by the division command team who welcomed them and told them a bit about the days events.
“Today is going to be a lot of fun, It’s going to be exciting and I promise you, it’s going to be challenging,” Maj. Gen. Andrew Poppas, commander, 101st Airborne Division, said to everyone in attendance before beginning the days events.
The cadre at The Sabalauski Air Assault School demonstrated special purpose infiltration and exfiltration system, fast roping, and rappelling for the women. They then had the chance to try rappelling off the 34’ tower.
After the rappelling, the women went through the TSAAS obstacle course and had the chance to see what it takes to be an Air Assault Soldier.
“The obstacle course was a lot of fun, hard, but a lot of fun,” said Rachel Guymon, stadium events sales coordinator. “I did something like this at some summer camps growing up, so it was fun to get do it again.”
They then boarded four UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters and were flown out to the Urban Warfare Complex. For some, this was there first chance to ride in a helicopter.
“I think most of us here have never flown in a helicopter before,” said Stacie Kinder, director of cheer and mascot entertainment. “It was really exciting having the doors open the whole flight too.”
They were given demonstrations on the different weapons systems used by the U.S. Army today. They also were able to see the vehicles the military uses in garrison and while deployed.
After the demonstrations were finished they went to the shoot house where they were shown how to enter and clear a room and were able to give it a try themselves.
After a long day of obstacle courses, rappelling, shooting and flying they headed back to TSAAS where they were each given a certificate of appreciation and a group photo to remember the day by.
“What a great day that was,” said Betsy Mularkey, spouse of head coach, Mike Mularkey. “We had an amazing time, thanks to everyone at the 101st for putting on such a great event.”
