The 86th Civil Engineer Squadron is preparing the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center’s southwest parking lot for its final acceptance on Sept. 11, 2017.
During the final acceptance, 86th CES, 86th Contracting Squadron, and the contractor will go over the completed work to ensure the quality before signing the final paperwork and reopening the parking lot.
“If the final acceptance goes well, then we plan to have the parking lot opened immediately after,” said Werner Fess, 86th CES project manager. “However, if there are discrepancies with the work, the contractor may be awarded time to correct any faults, which would postpone the opening.”
Construction started on the structure to repair damages due to years of varying weather conditions that eventually created deformations in the parking lot. While the repairs were being made, the 86th CES decided to take the opportunity to increase the width of the parking spaces in the lot.
“In the past we’ve had a few complaints about the width of the parking spaces in this parking lot,” said Fess. “We took this time to increase the width of parking spaces from 2.40 meters to 2.75 meters.”
While the update to the size of parking spaces allows for better accessibility for vehicles, it also decreases the number of total spaces available in the lot by 20.
When the parking lot reopens, it is recommended that drivers pay attention to signs and markings to prevent accidents in the area.
