MCSC gears up for Marine Week Detroit

MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va.—Marine Corps Systems Command is bringing the gear to Marine Week Detroit Sept. 6-10. During the four-day event, about 700 Marines—including MCSC Marines—will showcase equipment and aircraft, perform band concerts and engage in community service events to share the Corps’ history, capabilities, traditions and pride.

The annual celebration of “Community, Country and Corps” will showcase the history, capabilities, pride and professionalism of the Corps, as well as honor the service and sacrifice of Marines and their families. Metro Detroiters will interact with Marines visiting the Motor City through a variety of free and public events held at locations in and around downtown Detroit.

“Marine Week celebrates the contributions of local Marine heroes and the Detroit community whose historic service to our nation has protected and preserved our way of life for hundreds of years,” said Lt. Col. Bill Lanham, officer in charge of Marine Week coordination for Marine Corps Systems Command. “Marine Corps Systems Command is honored to have the opportunity to recognize the support of the local community, and show the Marine Corps’ continued dedication to our country.”

Citizens of Detroit will be able to climb aboard state-of-the-art aircraft and ground equipment, and get an up-close look at the latest military technology and combat weaponry. MCSC and Program Executive Officer Land Systems will have a variety of equipment on display, including:

• ISMT III: The Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer III has three new weapons, 3-D imagery, and enhanced training modes, giving Marines a better, more realistic training experience as they prepare for the complexities of modern warfare.
• Infrascanner: The Infrascanner is a portable, medical diagnostic device that provides early detection of intracranial hematomas—or bleeding within the skull—in the field, potentially saving lives and improving casualty care and recovery.
• Utility Task Vehicles: The rugged all-terrain vehicle can carry up to four Marines or be converted to haul 1,500 pounds of supplies. With minimal armor, the UTV can quickly haul extra ammunition and provisions, or injured Marines, while preserving energy and stealth.

The Command will also feature the M1A1 Tank, robots, ammunition and more.

“This event is a great opportunity for us to meet the people who support us and our mission,” Lanham said. “We look forward to building a close relationship with the people of Detroit and giving them a look at what we do.”
