Chambersburg, Pa. – In early August, Letterkenny Munitions Center’s Global Mobile Maintenance Team travelled to Germany to perform maintenance on Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS) in support of U.S. Army readiness requirements.

The mobile maintenance team comprised of both Precision Fire Rocket and Missile Systems Project Office personnel and LEMC technicians performed testing, inspection, depot and field-level maintenance onsite. In addition to this year’s test and inspection requirements, the team also performed software updates in country to the MLRS Family of Munitions (MFOM) Common Test Devices (MCTD), the field test set for MFOM.

“Our mobile maintenance teams have been a great success. We save the Army substantial transportation costs and keep our war fighters equipped with the most reliable munitions,” said Joshua Shaul, Electronics Equipment Mechanic Leader, LEMC. “Our teams get to see firsthand how important their work is and how the men and women deployed around the world appreciate the support.”
LEMC’s mobile repair efforts deliver a significant cost avoidance and time savings to the U.S. Army while increasing unit readiness by performing maintenance activities forward. LEMC’s onsite support improves asset readiness, prevents unnecessary down time, significantly reduces transportation expenses and provides capability to ensure operational effectiveness of military options.
This particular expedition was just the latest requirement for mobile maintenance generated from the Army outside of the continental U.S. LEMC regularly sends teams forward to conduct missile testing, inspection and maintenance to fulfill U.S. Military readiness requirements.

Additionally, in response to new requirements in 2016, LEMC has developed an exportable training package includes LEMC-developed materials for both MCTD and MCTD-Trainers, which functions as a simulated pod training device, allowing operators to train without live munitions.

“LEMC delivers a vital and agile capability that ensures Army warfighting readiness with our mobile maintenance teams,” said LTC Ignatowski, LEMC Commander. “We will continue to push the operational reach of our capability to wherever it is needed.”
In early 2016, LEMC was designated as the Army’s Center of Industrial and Technical Excellent for Army Tactical Missile Systems; Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems and Low-Cost, Reduced-Range, Practice-Rocket Missile Maintenance by the Secretary of the Army.

LEMC is located on Letterkenny Army Depot and is a Government-Owned, Government-Operated installation. LEMC conducts regional and global distribution of munitions, provides missile maintenance, and conducts demilitarization of munitions for the U.S. Army in support of Joint Forces and international partner nations.
