Special Ops Civilians Visit MARSOC

U.S. Special Operations Command’s Special Operations Forces Civilian Leadership Development Program (SOF CLDP) visited U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., June 5-7, 2017.
“The tour provided our group with a better understanding of what capabilities MARSOC brings to the SOF enterprise, the challenges and opportunities the command faces, and expanded our professional networks by meeting with our counterparts,” said Bryon Mushrush, an intelligence officer for USSOCOM.
This annual program is designed to enhance the professional development of civilian personnel assigned throughout the special operations enterprise. Participants broaden their professional development through exposure to a wide array of scenarios and learn firsthand about key organizations. From topics directly impacting USSOCOM to issues relevant to the special operations environment, personnel advance their knowledge and understanding of the warfighters they support.
During the tour, civilian personnel experienced some of the training capabilities the MARSOC critical skills operators go through, such as an indoor shooting range, a rappel tower and rock wall, and visited the multi-purpose canine kennels.
“This experience provided us with a greater appreciation for how MARSOC uniquely brings the USMC culture and also view of operations and incorporates it into SOF,” said Mushrush. “Seeing how MARSOC shapes their teams and capabilities to the mission and are able to push unique, enabling, skill-sets down to the team level provided greater insight and perspective.”
MARSOC was the final stop of the service-wide tour, allowing the participants to learn a great deal about USSOCOM’s youngest service component. The group benefited from the in-depth look at the unique culture that shapes MARSOC operations around the world.
