CENTCOM’s senior NCO encouraged by progress, commitment

KABUL, Afghanistan (Aug. 19, 2017) — U.S. Central Command’s senior enlisted leader concluded his tour of Afghanistan at Train, Advise, Assist Command – East last week.

Command Sgt. Maj. William F. Thetford spoke with noncommissioned officers throughout the country, commending them for their commitment to the overall Resolute Support mission.

“These young troops take pride in their mission and their awareness of the effects they are having is superb,” Thetford said. “This is a sign that they have good leadership that keeps them informed on their impact.”

While at TAAC-E, Thetford received a final operations and intelligence brief.

“We typically work 12 hours so we get familiar with the enemy situation pretty fast. It becomes your life knowing everything you can about the enemy situation,” said Spc. Abigail McVickar, intel analyst. “Getting the opportunity to brief Comand Sgt. Maj. Thetford allowed us to demonstrate how much dedication and hard work we put in everyday here at TAAC-E.”

Following the briefing, Thetford shared the strategic objectives from U.S. Central Command, and stressed to the NCOs that with everything going on in the world, they are at the forefront of his mind.

“Because of your level of expertise, you make something dangerous seem routine,” Thetford said to the NCOs present. “It is evident that you are not just marking time, you are here to make a difference and we can’t ask for more.”
