Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson visited the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing in Kabul, Afghanistan, Aug. 17.

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein accompanied Wilson on her first visit to the base as they met with Train, Advise, Assist Command-Air leaders and listened to briefings about ongoing developments of the Afghan Air Force.

This is her first official visit outside the United States since being confirmed as secretary on May 12 that included additional stops in Afghanistan at Kandahar and Bagram Airfields.

Wilson and Goldfein were greeted by Afghan Brig. Gen. Mohammed Shoaib, the commander of the Afghan Air Force, and U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Phillip A. Stewart, the commander of TAAC-Air and the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing.

The visit enabled senior leaders to talk to Airmen and discuss their role in the Resolute Support mission. The officials were also able to hear firsthand about the various AAF missions conducted by Afghan Airmen and supported by TAAC-Air advisors.
