3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team Public Affairs, 4th Infantry Division
GRAFENWOEHR TRAINING AREA, Germany – Soldiers of Fox Company, 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, sharpened their gunnery skills in preparation for upcoming qualifying tables on heavy weapons systems here.
The training of the forward support company personnel July 28 included a convoy simulator and ranges for the M2 .50 caliber and M240B machine guns.
Staff Sgt. Kenneth Matthews, a motor transport operator and the noncommissioned officer in charge of the crews, said: “I have been impressed with the training, as it encompasses the concept of the Army doctrine of ‘crawl, walk, run.’ This process of preparing Soldiers for gunnery allows them to initially learn in an environment that permits them to grow in confidence and skill safely.”
The training is crucial for the logistics unit, which can be called upon to provide its own security while providing sustainment – from field feeding, to equipment maintenance and resupply – to the battalion.
“I thought the training was exciting because it’s not something we as support get to do a whole lot. It’s good training and allows us to get more familiarity and experience on the weapons systems. I also think it’s good for team building and communication for the members of each gunnery crew,” said Pfc. Noah Munley, a motor transport operator with Fox Co.
Fox Co. will conduct its gunnery exercises later this month, competing against other units in 3rd Bde for top scores.
