BAGHDAD – Two local nationals were killed and 15 were wounded in an unknown explosion in Baghdad's Rusafa district at approximately noon Sept. 22, 2008.
The Iraqi citizens injured in the explosion were transported to local hospitals.
Eight vehicles and several buildings in the area surrounding the site were damaged.
An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
"Our thoughts are with the families who lost a loved one in this evil attack. We are committed to bringing those responsible for this murderous crime to justice," said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, spokesman for the 4th Infantry Division and Multi-National Division – Baghdad. "Though attack levels are way down from a year ago, we are still aggressively pursuing, targeting and arresting both special group and al Qaida in Iraq operatives and leadership. We have severely disrupted their operations, but by no means are they defeated."
