Story by Airman 1st Class Andrew Moore

    9th Reconnaissance Wing

“I immigrated to the United States in 2001 from Nigeria. While I was in Nigeria I attended seminary college so I could become a Catholic priest. In Nigeria you have the super-rich and the indigent poor, so there is not a large middle class due to the lack of equitable distribution of resources. My family was not the poorest of poor but we were not amongst the rich. I encountered some difficulties in Nigeria, but a friend encouraged me to go to Europe or America to continue my education. It was when I came to America to continue the pursuit of my dream to be a Catholic priest where I met my first Air Force recruiter. The recruiter emphasized the need for chaplains in the Air Force as well as the roles chaplains play in providing spiritual guidance to Airmen and I knew that’s what I wanted to do.”
