    18th Wing

Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright visited multiple locations around the base and discussed the importance of resiliency, mentorship and challenges of working at an installation with a high operations tempo.
“[Airmen] need to take care of what we know as the Comprehensive Airman Fitness pillars,” said Wright. “Take care of yourself; make sure you’re resilient physically, mentally, spiritually and socially. That applies to the family, too. Having a plan can really help.”
Smiles spanned the faces of Airmen that had the opportunity to speak with Wright during his stay at Kadena. The high-energy given off by Wright was contagious, allowing for open and free conversation. Discussions ranged from work performance to the pride he feels for the accomplishments achieved by the personnel of the base. Many Airmen also received the Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force’s challenge coin.
“Meeting the CMSAF was a bit nerve wracking at first, but he was very personable,” said Senior Airman Joseph Lindgren, 18th Medical Group dental assistant. “He was a dental Airman like myself at Kadena years ago. Hearing about that and his support of the Airmen on Kadena was incredibly motivating to me.”
Wright held many conversations with Shogun Airmen to ensure the programs he is working with senior leaders to implement in the future remain both attainable and sustainable, such as programs promoting resiliency.
"We need to continue building resilient Airmen and communities so we have the ability to bounce back whenever life throws adversity our way," Wright said. "To make sure we have this ability, we need to ensure the right resources are available, and we as a community need to de-stigmatize asking for help."
Wright also conducted his CMSAF Town Hall for more than 900 enlisted, officers, civilians and spouses of the 18th Wing and its partner units and addressed his priorities, vision and the importance of the missions that are accomplished on Kadena.
“It was great coming back to Kadena,” said Wright. “I like the transformation that I’ve seen in the mentality here. When I see the seriousness and how committed and dedicated people here are to taking care of the mission, it’s just a joy to see.”
