“I've never experienced anything like it,” said the Airman of seven years and single mother. “You have to be focused with all your mind, heart and soul, and then constantly, constantly be prepared.”
Regina began fitness modeling only in the last year. At the beginning, she had her ups and downs with competing. Her first competition was March 2017, when she placed only in the top ten. The results devastated her, she said. But, that was enough motivation for her to strive for greatness. A month later, she competed again.
“There have been times when I did not place in the top five, but without failure you can never be a success,” Regina explained. “Failure is important in order to go to the next level. That failure provided me with valuable feedback on what I did wrong and how I needed to go about fixing it.”
After placing first in the Virginia Bikini and Figure competition this past April, she is now a nationally qualified Women’s Bikini Model.
“Bikini is so much more than cardio and dieting,” Regina said. “You hear all the time about people who start training to compete and end up quitting after months of hard work. I wanted to push myself to not be one of those people.”
In the weeks ahead, while waiting to compete in her next bikini fitness competition, Regina said she has learned more about herself, and her limits, as she pushed them. Constantly striving to do better, not only for herself, but for her daughter and the Air Force.
Raised in the ‘While I breathe, I hope’ state of South Carolina, Regina, was on the path to an Air Force career way before she knew it. Her grandfather, who she lived near growing up, an Army veteran.
“I was inspired to join the Air Force because of my grandfather,” she said. “He would tell me all his war stories and how he would not change his experiences for anything. He instilled in us the same values that they had taught him while he served.”
Since joining the Air Force, Regina said her mission has been to be a better version of herself than the previous day.
“My main goal was to, at the end of the day, be able to look in the mirror and say I did everything I was supposed to. I pushed myself to the max, exemplifying the Air Force core value… excellence in all we do.”
The Airman encourages others in the military to do their best, and push themselves to accomplish more.
“My advice to Airmen that aspire to be the total package is to make sure that you are physically, mentally, socially and spiritual balance,” she said. “If you can manage these four pillars of life, anything is possible.”
