Lt. Gen. David J. Buck, Commander, 14th Air Force (Air Forces Strategic), Air Force Space Command; and Commander, Joint Functional Component Command for Space, U.S. Strategic Command, and Chief Master Sgt. Craig A. Neri, Command Chief Master Sergeant, 14th Air Force (AFSTRAT), Air Force Space Command; and Command Senior Enlisted Leader, JCC Space, U.S. Strategic Command, toured several units and met with Team Buckley members May 23 and 24 on Buckley Air Force Base, Colo.

Just an hour after arriving, the 14th Air Force leadership team held a “Focus on Frontline Leadership” meeting with Team Buckley flight commanders and flight chiefs.

“As a leader, there are three things that I live by,” said Buck. “I constantly remind myself to be humble, be approachable and to remain credible.”

Prior to ending the first day with a commander’s call, they spent time with the 460th Security Forces Squadron, who displayed their current flightline security capabilities; the 460th Medical Group, who discussed future plans to enhance patient care; the 460th Civil Engineer Squadron, who discussed future upgrades to space-operation facilities.

During their commander’s call, Buck and Neri both engaged in the topics of space progression and taking care of Airmen before opening the floor for questions from Team Buckley Airmen.

“We have made a ton of progress in the last year,” said Buck. “We can now say that space is a warfighting domain; a year ago, I couldn’t say that in public.”

On the morning of May 24, both Buck and Neri joined Airmen for breakfast to once again address any question they may have.

Finally, the leadership team ended their visit with a tour of the 460th Operations Group for an update on the Space-Based Infrared System mission.
