Ohio National Guard
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio has a new star. Brig. Gen. Matthew L. Kambic was promoted last week to the rank of major general. He is now Ohio's first two-star assistant adjutant general for Army.
For Kambic, it is always about the team. "I have the same job, the same responsibilities, there is no difference," he said. "But it says a lot about our team that there is a two-star general position for the Army National Guard in Ohio. It tells me that the capacity and contribution of our organization is recognized as significant to our state and country."
His family joined him during, the Sept. 5, 2008, ceremony, and his wife, Patti, pinned on his additional star. Also present were son Matthew, currently a Staff Sgt. in the Ohio Air National Guard and his other son, who attended by proxy. Spc. Andrew Kambic is currently deployed with Company C, 1st Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment to Southwest Asia in support of the Global War on Terrorism. His life-size cutout was there during this special occasion.
"The Ohio National Guard is about Soldiers, Airmen, their families and employers. We all respond when called." Kambic said while reflecting upon his own service and that of his children. As one of the nation's largest Army National Guard organizations, Ohio's force has grown to 108 percent of its authorized strength and has responded to numerous state and federal calls to duty, including natural disasters within Ohio and the Global War on Terrorism during his tenure.
