    364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command

Family, Friends and Soldiers gathered together in appreciation of seven service members, whose combined years of service totaled more than 238 years. Leaders from the Marysville-based 364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and the Tacoma-based 654th Regional Support Group were recognized for their dedication during a retirement ceremony at the Marysville Armed Forces Reserve Center May 20

Honored during the ceremony were several ESC leaders including Col. Anthony J. Naples, deputy commanding officer; Col. David M. Hammons, chief of staff; Col. John A. Weakland, support operations chief; Lt. Col. Michael L. Heden, distribution management chief; Chief Warrant Officer Four Joanne K. Thomas, human resources; and Master Sgt. Richard A. Montgomery, senior operations sergeant. Command Sgt. Major Brenda Louise Peterson, senior supply sergeant of the 654th RSG also retired.

The unit’s commander was the guest speaker for the event and noted the serendipitous convergence of Armed Forces Day with the Soldiers’ retirement ceremony, both occurring on May 20.

Brig. Gen. Gregory Mosser reminded the audience that Armed Forces Day is a day for all citizens to honor service members for their commitment to defending the Nation and said it was fitting that his Soldiers set aside time during battle training assembly honoring their fellow Soldiers who spent their lives in the military.

“As we look across this distinguished group, all of them are at or past 30 years of service and that is a significant amount of time out of anyone’s life. The time that they spent with us, those times form bonds that are very much like family bonds.” Mosser said.

During their remarks to the audience, all the retirees mentioned the importance of their family. "My family made it entirely possible for me to put aside all my other responsibilities over the last decades and focus on the mission and the men and women of our Army," Naples said.

The 364th ESC's retirement ceremony is an expression of appreciation and gratitude for distinguished service to the U.S. Army and the nation.

Each retiree received a U.S. Army Meritorious Service Medal, a U.S. Flag, a presidential citation, a retired army lapel pin and a retirement certificate. Family members received a certificate of appreciation and flowers.
