JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii – More than 50 Airmen from the 144th Fighter Wing’s Medical Group deployed to the island of Oahu in support of Operation Kula Aloha May 3, 2017.
The Hawaii Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Emergency (CBRNE) Response Force is hosting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region IX Medical Collective Training Exercise May 3-9, 2017. The California Homeland Response Force (HRF), which includes the 144th Medical Group, will be participating in this state-wide exercise along with the Hawaii and Nevada CBRNE Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP) medical elements as part of a training requirement to enhance the regional medical response for an all hazards event.
The 144th Fighter Wing’s Medical Detachment 1 is required to complete two separate collective training events each fiscal year that focuses on joint response to FEMA Region IX. This exercise will provide critical airlift training for the California Homeland Response Force during a regional response that involves local, state and inter-agency partners during a Defense Support to Civil Authorities (DSCA) operation.
“This exercise will enable the MED DET to validate its Time Phases Force Development Data and to test its capabilities for air transport of the vehicles and equipment associated with the National Guard Chemical Response Enterprise,” said Capt. Chance Pasley, 144th Medical Group and Region IX Medical Planner.
The exercise scenario, Operation Kula Aloha, involves a large scale hurricane that directs the Hawaii CERFP to request additional forces and equipment for support. During the exercise, Hawaii and California will demonstrate their joint capability through 24 hour operations.
