New Marines Ad Shows ‘Fighting Spirit’ Lasts a Lifetime

QUANTICO, Virginia – Marine Corps Recruiting Command released the latest commercial under the ‘Battles Won’ brand idea May 12. The ad, like the other work in the recently-launched campaign, is aimed at the recruitable population and their influencers – parents, teachers, coaches and community leaders.

The new digital and TV commercial is called “Battle Up,” and features the evolution of a Marine as she grows from a young student and athlete with a fighting spirit and sense of responsibility to a battle-tested Marine overcoming every challenge presented.

“Battle Up” is intended to help aspiring youth and their influencers learn more about who Marines are, what they do, and how their core values align with the Corps’. It begins with a young student who stands up for what is right and intervenes to prevent bullying, before transitioning to show the protagonist on a rugby pitch, pushing off a defender and scoring a try for her team. Next, we see her as an adult, overcoming some of the physical and mental challenges of Officer Candidates School, before moving forward to a battle scene where she is a Marine convoy commander leading her troops under fire to engage the enemy and accomplish their mission. A longer-form version of the ad features a final scene wherein the Marine’s fighting spirit is demonstrated as she helps battle homelessness in her community.

“This advertisement and the others associated with the Battles Won brand idea evidences with absolute clarity the indomitable fighting spirit of our nation’s Marines,” said Lt. Col. John Caldwell, Assistant Chief of Staff, Marketing and Public Affairs, MCRC. “Marines don’t back down from a fight – whether personal, in combat, or when confronted with injustice; Marines fight and win the battles they face throughout their lives. The Marine Corps recruits quality citizens who aren’t afraid to fight for what’s right around the world or in their communities.”
