ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. – The first flight of an RQ-4 Global Hawk coming to Robins is scheduled for May 10. The arrival of this unmanned aerial vehicle marks the first time an aircraft of this type has flown to an Air Force Air Logistics Complex.
Robins will provide an organic paint capability. This work is necessary to prevent corrosion and deterioration of the aircraft to keep it operating at full mission performance. Plus, the establishment of a Building Based Launch and Recovery Element will allow for launch, landing and ground recovery operations of the aircraft.
While a programmed depot maintenance requirement for Global Hawk has not been established, the Air Force recognizes that having organic maintenance capability improves planning flexibility and is a force multiplier. This first-ever Global Hawk depaint/paint operation at Robins will both prove this capability and offer a valuable training opportunity to this highly skilled workforce.
The actual arrival of the aircraft and special recognition ceremony will be two events scheduled for Wednesday. An early morning arrival will occur where the aircraft will land and ground recovery operations take place.
Later that morning a ceremony will take place recognizing this momentous occasion where Air Force officials will address the audience and media about the importance of the Global Hawk being at Robins.
