    122nd Fighter Wing

FORT WAYNE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Ind. - Each year members of the 122nd Fighter Wing are recognized for their impressive and commendable accomplishments. These members set themselves apart from others by going above and beyond the scope of their job. One such individual is Master. Sgt. Danielle N. Gray, Operations Intelligence Craftsman from the 122nd Operations Support Squadron. Gray was selected as the NCO of the Year, on December 3, 2016, at the 122nd Fighter Wing, Fort Wayne, IN.

Gray has consistently been recognized for excellence at formal schools and deployments and was one of three members coined by the Wing Commander for excellence while leading the Intelligence team during the recent Operation Snowbird exercise in Tucson, AZ. Operation Snowbird provides support for visiting flying units from U.S. military installations and Allied partners needing to train in the optimal weather conditions and ample ranges of Southern Arizona. This environment is similar to deployed environments, making the base and its assets ideal for combat training.

Gray takes pride in the work she does on a daily basis and follows a focused and ambitious mindset into every task she completes, no matter how big or small.

“I care about the work I do, this is my life, I won’t just get by,” said Gray, who as a member of her unit is responsible for intelligence training. “What I do matters. I give it my all!”

Gray was also handpicked by a United States Air Force weapons school to teach at the Advanced Enlisted Mission Planning Course where she honed her skills as an instructor and evaluator. The five-week course includes more than 120 hours of academic instruction focused on advanced mission planning concepts for supporting major commands. It's geared toward five-level and seven-level NCOs. Gray was the only Air National Guard member in the course and was not expected to stand out due to her Guard affiliation. However, Gray impressed instructors so much with her intelligence and hardworking mindset that she was asked to return as an instructor.

She is proud of all the accomplishments she has made throughout her career, however, her most proud moment was receiving the John Levitow Award during her enrollment in the NCO Academy in 2015. The John Levitow Award is the highest honor presented to a graduate of Air Force Enlisted Professional Military Education, including Airman Leadership School, NCO Academy, and the Senior NCO Academy. To be eligible for the award, a graduate must rank in the top 1 percent of his or her class. She was selected 1 of 180 students in the course based on academics, physical training, and character.

While others were out having fun and enjoying their time off I stayed behind to help other students, said Gray. It was important to me to help others even if it meant sacrificing my own time in the process.
