    FORT BENNING, Ga. – The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) competitive shooting teams work daily to be the best marksmen in the world. Here is a review of their accomplishments for the week ending April 23.

    Competitions

    Service Pistol
    Sgt. 1st Class Adam Sokolowski, Service Pistol Team, from Yeagertown, Pennsylvania, won the Metallic Division and the Ironman/2-Gun matches at the 2017 Crawfish Cup Regional match held at Lake Charles, Louisiana, from April 17-23.
    Other top finishes by Service Pistol Team members at the event included:
    • Sgt. 1st Class Patrick Franks, Service Pistol Team, from Williamsport, Tennessee, captured the Production Division title.
    • Sgt. Katie Bahten, from Fort Benning, Georgia, took third place in the Ladies Open Division.
    • Specialist Anthony Heinauer, from Fort Stewart, Georgia, took third in the Metallic Division.
    • Staff Sgt. Ryan Franks, from Williamsport, Tennessee, came in fourth place of the Production Division.

    In other action, Service Pistol Team members completed sweeps of the top three spots in three different events at the 2017 Dixie Match Regional competition in Jacksonville, Florida, April 19-23.
    In addition, the USAMU Service Pistol Team won all four team matches at the event and was the overall team champion.
    • Sgt. 1st Class James Henderson, from Pasadena, California, was the overall Individual Champion and the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Excellence in Competition (EIC) Service Pistol winner with a new range record. Henderson also set a new range record in the National Rifle Association (NRA) Center Fire Slow Fire Match.
    • Staff Sgt. Greg Markowski, Service Pistol Team, from Sycow, Poland, finished first in the .22 Caliber EIC Pistol Championship and set a new range record in the NRA Center Fire Timed Fire.
    • Spc. Christopher Hudock, from Virginia Beach, Virginia, captured third in the event category.
    • AMU swept the .22 Caliber EIC Pistol Championship event with Markowski finishing first, followed by Hudock in second, and Staff Sgt. Joshua Kingery, from Honolulu, Hawaii in third place.

    The Service Pistol EIC Championship was also another USAMU clean sweep with Henderson, Markowski and Hudock finishing first, second and third, respectively.

    Action Shooting Team
    AMU Soldiers were the top two military finishers at the 2017 USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) Area 6 Championship at South River Gun Club in Covington, Georgia, from April 19-22.
    Specialist Jacob Hetherington from Prescott, Arizona, won the championship in the Single Stack Division while Staff Sgt. John Browning of Griffin, Georgia, finished in fifth place.

    Shotgun Team
    The USAMU Shotgun Team hosted the 2017 Fort Benning Open, April 21-23. The event consisted of a Skeet and Trap competition using the same venue where USA Shooting will hold its Spring Selection Match in May.

    Olympic Gold Medalist Sgt. 1st Class Glenn Eller, from Houston, Texas won the Trap event. Eller recently transitioned from Double Trap to Trap due to Double Trap’s removal from the Olympics.

    Sgt. William Stewart, from Nashville, Tennessee, took first place in the Skeet event followed by team member Sgt. Mark Staffen, from Westerville, Ohio.
