    311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command

LAS VEGAS – First Lt. Anthony Lafleur, a Reno, Nevada native, assumed command of the 257th Transportation Company (CBT HET) from Capt. Michael Massey, at the Las Vegas U.S. Army Reserve Center on the Nellis Air Force Base April 23, where Maj. Leopold Karanikolas, 314th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion commander, was present to transfer the unit colors to Lafleur from Massey who has led the unit for three years.

Lafleur received his commission as a Military Intelligence Officer in 2014. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he earned a Masters in Mathematics. After commissioning, he was assigned to the 63rd Brigade Support Battalion in Sloan, Nevada, where he served in a variety of positions, including Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer and the Support Company Bravo Maintenance commander.

The ceremony began with the traditional ceremonial pageantry. The standing unit was summoned to order arms. The audience stood for the Presentation of the Colors and Honors, and the unit was brought to present arms, then to parade rest. These displays of uniformity were executed with discipline and precision.

Lafleur was enthusiastic and energized as he accepted the 257th TC command, thanking the Soldiers and distinguished visitors for their presence and thanking Maj. Karanikolas for this opportunity.

“It is an honor and privilege to be entrusted as the commander of the 257th Transportation Company,” said Lafleur. “To our Soldiers, I want to make sure we are the most fit unit in the brigade and ready for any deployment.”

In the center of the motor pool, the formal transfer of authority and responsibility for the unit took place. First Sgt. Jason Vasquez, who is the keeper of the colors, passed the colors to Massey, the outgoing commander. He then passed the colors to Maj. Karanikolas, the representative of the higher command, symbolizing the relinquishment of his command.

Maj. Karanikolas then delivered the colors to Lafleur, the new commander. Finally, the new commander passed it back to the 1st Sgt., who is charged with protecting it. At the end of the ceremony, the commander of the higher command ordered the new company commander to take charge of his company.

The wind blew through the bay and made the flags stand at attention, throughout the ceremony. During his remarks, Karanikolas spoke about the importance of leadership saying, “Leading a company is a very important stepping stone for any officer. Capt. Massey did a great job and I’m sure Lt. Lafleur will do the same.”

The ceremony concluded with a catered reception at the drill hall that included a personalize cake, cold cut sandwiches and a cerebration with Lafleur’s mother, unit Soldiers and invited guests.

The 257th Transportation Company (CBT HET) mission is to move to area of operations to relocate heavy maneuver forces on the battlefield and provide heavy equipment transportation for operational and tactical relocation.

The mission of the 314th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion is to provide mission command of all assigned and attached units of the 314th CSSB as it operates logistics hubs of supply, transportation, and maintenance support to the Sustainment Brigade and supported Brigade Combat Teams.
