FORT STEWART, Ga. – Thirteen of 3rd Infantry Division’s top Soldiers braved the Best Warrior Competition to become the new noncommissioned officer or Soldier of the Year April 26 – 28 at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
In the end, 3rd ID's Command Sgt. Maj. Walter Tagalicud announced Staff Sgt. Vlorim Aliu of Task Force 1-28, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and Spc. Ryan Baur of 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, as the winners.
“It was a close competition for all, but these two are going to represent the 3rd Infantry Division,” Tagalicud said about the subsequent XVIII Airborne Corps board scheduled for June.
To win their illustrious titles, competitors completed an Army physical fitness test, foot march, stress shoot, obstacle course and other warrior tasks.
“These Soldiers and NCOs are better today than they were a week ago because of the training they did and the competition that sharpened their skills,” said Tagalicud. “Congratulations to all of you. The commander, your command teams and I are very proud of what you’ve done.”
