Over 90 Delayed Entry Program candidates participated in an Air Force mass enlistment April 22 at the 2017 Gulf Coast Salute open house and air show.
The DEP is comprised of prequalified individuals for military service, who await departure for Basic Military Training.
“I’m very excited to be a part of the Air Force,” said Nicole Barwick, a DEP member. “Seeing the air show made me see the bigger picture of what the Air Force mission is really about.”
These newly enlisted DEP members were eager to repeat the Oath of Enlistment after Gen. Mike Holmes, commander of Air Combat Command.
“It was amazing to have the opportunity to recite the oath of enlistment at an air show,” Barwick added.
The four-star general, who was accompanied by six U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron Thunderbird pilots, shared some words of inspiration with the newly enlisted Airmen.
“The nation that we live in and the things we have become accustomed to are not guaranteed,” Holmes said. “They are bought every year by the blood, sweat and tears of men and women in places like the Air Force.”
Family members, friends and the enlistees’ recruiters were gathered around to share this monumental moment.
“I feel honored to see them enlist,” said Master Sgt. William Pullion, the 325th Force Support Squadron reserve recruiter. “It’s not every day you get to see an enlistment, especially a large one like this.”
Pullion and his team invested months of preparation to organize this event, to ensure their recruits could participate in this memorable experience, he noted.
These young men and women just took their first step into their Air Force career. Wingmanship will prove to be a vital concept for these new troops as they embark on their journey to BMT.
