CAMP AS SAYLIYAH, Qatar — Maj. Gen. William Shane Lee, commander of the 3rd Medical Command Deployment Support, conducted a commemorative site visit at Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar from April 21-22.
Lee, also a physician from Marion, Ala., met with United States Central commander, Army Lt. Gen. Michael Garrett, to commemorate 25 years of partnered service between 3d MCDS and U.S. ARCENT in Southwest Asia.
During his visit Lee also received numerous briefs from his subordinate units in Qatar, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. At the conclusion of the briefings, he seized the opportunity to engage his Soldiers, by eating lunch and dinner with the team members of the 3d Operational Command Post Forward and awarded exceptional performers with a division challenge coin.
3rd Medical Command Deployment Support is a senior deployable medical command and control headquarters, providing support to U.S. Army Africa and U.S. Army Central areas of operation. The division provides support and technical supervision for more than 7,500 soldiers and civilians located in 21 states and Puerto Rico to prepare and provide trained soldiers and units to conduct missions in the most capable, combat ready and lethal U.S. Army Reserve force in American history. Capabilities include health care specialists, X-ray technicians, ophthalmology, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, dentists, surgeons, and veterinarians.
