SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – Maj. Gen. Khaled Saleh Al-Sabah, the Kuwait land forces commander, recently visited the U.S. Army Central Headquarters where he was hosted by Lt. Gen. Michael Garrett, commanding general of USARCENT and key personnel to discuss multiple topics as the two forces continue to build on their enduring partnership.
“This visit to USARCENT is important to both our armies and our nations and affirming our commitment,” said Khaled.
This makes the first time the Kuwait land forces commander has visited the USARCENT headquarters.
“This visit is significant in continuing to build the relationship we have built with them throughout the years and shows their commitment and our commitment,” said Lt. Col. Walid Nasr, the central gulf security cooperation branch chief for USARCENT.
“The Kuwaitis provide safety and security of our Soldiers stationed in their country, so having Major General Khaled coming here helps us continue to build our military to military relationship,” said Nasr.
Kuwait and the United States has one of the most important allied relationships in the region and the U.S. have a strong defense cooperation agreement with them that allows USARCENT to support not only our Soldiers but support their Soldiers as well, said Col. Matthew Morton, assistant chief of staff for plans and policy for USARCENT.
Before arriving to USARCENT, Khaled visited with the Army’s Chief of Staff, Gen. Mark A. Milley where he was presented the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service and achievements.
Before Khaled and his staff departed, Garrett presented them with gifts and certificates to show appreciation for them continuing to improve and build a solid partner-ship.
“It was my distinct honor to welcome one of our most important partners in the region and a very dear friend of mine Major General Khaled to the USARCENT Headquarters,” said Garrett.
