The events are a way for the 18th CES to provide information on how to be ready for typhoon season, which runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.
The primary duty for the 18th CES Emergency Management section is to ensure the base population has all of the knowledge and resources available to them for emergency situations.
“Typhoons, generally speaking, are the biggest natural threat to Kadena,” said Senior Airman Joseph Jordan, 18th CES Emergency Management journeyman. “Because of that, we have documents like the Typhoon Guide that have emergency kit lists, information on where to get things like sandbags and education resources.”
Typhoons can leave families stuck indoors anywhere from a few hours to several days. Staying educated on what to do, as well as having a plan, can make the situation easier to deal with and, potentially, less dangerous.
“It’s extremely important that everyone has an emergency kit and a plan, especially families,” said Senior Airman Perry Cunanan, 18th CES Emergency Management journeyman. “Families with pets should make sure they have a plan for extra food and what they’ll do for the pet to relieve themselves. Those with small children should ensure they have not only spare food, but diapers and even games to keep everyone entertained in the event of a power outage.”
