    U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit

    USAMU PAO
Fort Benning, Ga. – The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit is dedicated to producing the best marksmen and small arms in the world as part of one the world’s most elite teams.
The USAMU wins competitions, shares its expertise across the force and is comprised of intelligent, adaptable and professional Soldiers who make a real difference in the world and for this Nation by connecting America’s people with America’s Army.
The USAMU continues to build upon the legacy and achievements of those who came before us by competing in worldwide marksmanship competitions on a weekly basis, here are the results from the week ending March 5, 2017:
The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Shotgun team was represented well by Sgt. Hayden Stewart, from Columbia, Tn. Stewart shot very well in his first World Cup match of 2017 in New Delhi, India from February 22-March 4.
He finished one clay short of reaching the finals in the Men’s Skeet event, shooting a 120 out of 125. He later teamed up with six-time Olympic medalist, Kim Rhode, in the mixed Team Skeet event, where the duo secured a Gold medal. The mixed team event (in some form) will become an Olympic event at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.
USAMU Shotgun team also hosted the Associations of College Unions International (ACUI) East Coast Championships at Fort Benning allowing approximately 200 trap and skeet competitors from 21 colleges to compete and attend along with their families.
2016 U.S. Olympian Spc. Dan Lowe, from Olympia, Wash., visited a Homestead, Fla., high school to share his Army story with students and show what the Army has to offer. This venue was a great way to connect America’s people to America’s Army and he represented the Army alongside other veterans.
The USAMU Action Shooting team competed at the 3-Gun Nation West Regional Championship near College Station, Texas, March 1-5. Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Horner, native of Suffolk, Va., won the Practical Division (Tactical Optics) with a score over 60 points higher than his next competitor.
Staff Sgt. Tyler Payne, from Princeton, Minn., took home 1st place in the Heavy Metal Practical Division during the competition this weekend, while Staff Sgt. Joel Turner, out of Belton, S.C., finished 2nd place in the Open Division.

All Army Marksmanship Unit Soldiers put up world-class scores throughout the week and competed at the highest level in each event.
