BSRF Marines solidify relations with Constanta mayor

Leaders with Black Sea Rotational Force 17.1 met with the Mayor of Constanta, Romania to increase relationships with the community in Constanta, March 30, 2017.
“It’s key to build these relationships,” said Lt. Col. Juarez S. Morgan, civil affairs team leader with BSRF 17.1. “Even though a lot of what we do is military to military engagements and training, ultimately it’s about our relationships with the communities of our ally nations.”
This was one of many meetings the Marines with BSRF have had with community leaders in Romania, setting up multiple events to include Veterans Day ceremonies and sporting events allowing the local population the opportunity to interact with the Marines.
"We are very thankful for the strong relationship we have with the local community,” said Lt. Col. David Emmel, commanding officer for BSRF 17.1. “Maintaining constant communication between the Marines of BSRF and the people of Romania is crucial to our collective success."
` This relationship has also allowed Marines to experience the culture and history of their host country; giving them the opportunity to visit museums and local schools to better understand daily life in Romania.
“Lt. Col. David Emmel's honorable visit and the meetings with BSRF 17.1 are essential for building and maintaining strong partnerships,” said Senia Resul, Inspector on Foreign Affairs in Constanta. “They have a great impact on the local community due to the interest shown by the U.S. military in getting involved in the cultural and humanitarian actions organized by the municipality.”
