Underwater Construction Team (UCT) 2’s Construction Diving Detachment Alfa (CDDA) completed their 2017 Diver’s Training Exercise (DIVEX) with a two-week sea phase at Naval Auxiliary Landing Field San Clemente Island 13-26 Feb.

During the training, CDDA also conducted four fleet mooring inspections and maintenance of over 2,000 feet of mooring chain, increasing the service life of these facilities. CDDA’s DIVEX provided a practical exercise to hone both the underwater and top-side skills required to perform safe and precise routine and emergency diving situations.

CCDA also conducted a pre-screening for Master Diver. The screening, conducted for four master underwater construction technician candidates encompassed all facets of Navy diving, allowing them to train on proper diving techniques and procedures for surfaced supplied, ship’s husbandry, mixed gas, hyperbaric medicine, and SCUBA. The training also covered emergency protocols for diving related illnesses and mechanical injuries.

“I am thoroughly impressed with my detachment’s ability to grow,” said Lt. j. g. Michael Roster, CDDA’s officer-in-charge. “Several of my divers are fresh from dive school and this is their first diver’s training. They are anxiously engaged in supporting the dive-side and getting their quals.”

UCT 2 provides underwater construction, inspection, repair and maintenance of waterfront facilities in support of Naval and Marine Corps operations deploying and supporting the 7th Fleet in the Pacific Theater. Underwater Construction Technicians have the unique ability of providing shallow and deep underwater repairs, as well as being a highly skilled construction force.
