NCO inspires others to go above and beyond

CAMP AIRFJAN, Kuwait – Many noncommissioned officers look to others for inspiration through various avenues. “Work hard and Stay humble,” written by Candice Lewis, who is an International Federation of Body Builders professional, is a quote that one NCO uses as her muse.
Ironically, enough, these words could not be truer when referring to this specific NCO. She works hard and is beyond humble.
Sgt. Bryttany Gant, an awards NCO for Combined Joint Task Force at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, adamantly says that she is just doing her job the best that she can. But those who are around her, say that she is one of those Soldiers who inspire others.
“She’s one of those Soldiers who pushes you with her positivity,” said Chief Warrant Officer 4 Enny Dulanto, the human resources technician for CJTF. “She’s that Soldier who will keep you going when you’re ready to quit.”
Dulanto has worked with Gant since 2012 and has watched her gracefully promote through the ranks from private first class to sergeant.
“She has always been mature for her rank,” said the Fayetteville, North Carolina, native. “You can give her any task, and that task will get accomplished.”
Gant’s spare time is spent working out, training Soldiers, and ensuring that she never has idle hands.
“She always finds something to keep herself busy,” chuckled Dulanto. Who went on to describe how Gant conducts sergeant’s time training, or professional development training, for Soldiers on her time off when she is not working out.
“Every Soldier goes to her for advice or encouragement,” said Dulanto. “Including the Chief of Staff of CJTF, Brig. Gen. J. Scott O’Meara, who goes directly to (Gant) for advice.”
Gant has proven that she lives the Army values before she ever joined. While attending Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, leadership roles developed her and molded her into the NCO she is today.
She played competitively for the women’s basketball team and was initiated into the sorority Delta Sigma Zeta, Inc., while maintaining her grades in order to graduate with a bachelors in business administration.
When she joined the Army five years ago, she was looking for a career. What she found was a profession with limitless possibilities.
“It’s been great! I’ve done things that I would never be able to do as a civilian,” Gant stated. “I have a few options I’m currently considering that range from Officer Candidate School or Warrant Officer School, or if those don’t work out then I can work toward becoming sergeant major.”
Outside of the military, she hopes to become a personal trainer or a nutritionist later in life.
Gant stated she has had various mentors and role models both in the military and outside the military.
“There are a lot of people along the way that have had some sort of impact on my career,” said the St. Petersburg, Florida, native. “A lot of NCOs, officers, and peers … and definitely my mom. She knows and understands when I need great words of affirmation.”
While Gant humbly states she is just doing her job and is doing the right thing. It is that attitude that is elevating her above her peers.
“She’s awesome! Gant- that’s who she is,” said Dulanto. “She is always doing the right thing at the right time. Her work ethic and how respectful she is, it’s noticed because that mentality is dying in the military.”
Ultimately, her humility and positive look on life brings a charisma that is often lost in theater, where some Soldiers are often wore down and tired from the operational tempo. Gant uses her sunny disposition to inspire those around her.
“Don’t give up, stay competitive,” said Gant. “Anyone can reach a goal that they want, it just depends on them to make it happen.”
