Airman and Family Readiness Program managers from across the Air National Guard trained and refreshed on program updates and requirements during the annual Core Service Training at the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center.

The 71 students and seven staff gathered here, March 13-16, in the large upper classroom inside the new facility.

“These wing managers are the center of all family programs,” said Kim Bowman, an Air National Guard Family Programs analyst assigned to the National Guard Bureau, in an email.

Bowman said the managers are also subject matter experts in a plethora of services, programs, education resources and opportunities. “It is vital to have the capability to train and refresh the field on program requirements and updates,” she said.

Airmen and their families visit A&FRP offices for relocation assistance, non-medical individual and family counseling, personal and family life education, personal financial management services, information and referrals, deployment assistance, spouse education and career opportunities, exceptional family member services, transition assistance and volunteer programs, among other needs.

“This core service training is a sequel to their orientation training which gives an initial review of program requirements; this is a deeper look at each service area for focused training,” said Bowman.

Bowman said that the training also covered the Air Force Family Integrated Results and Statistical Tracking system and the ANG transition assistance program website.
