The Minot Officers’ Spouses Club organizes nonprofit, educational and social activities that help raise money towards college scholarships for military dependents, local charities and organizations.
The club is primarily philanthropic, according to Tim O’Hara, MOSC president.
“Our main goal is to raise money for charities and scholarships for dependents and spouses enrolled in school,” O’Hara said.
O’Hara also mentioned the MOSC scholarship program is open to all dependents of active duty, retired or deceased military members of any rank or branch of service.
“We try to contribute as much as we can to base functions in order to support military families,” said Dianne Renkas, MOSC charitable coordinator. “We recently gave $1,000 to the base summer reading program, $1,000 to Minot’s Airmen Against Drunk Driving program, $500 to the Youth Center and $250 to the Minot Youth Mentoring program.”
The club also holds two fundraisers every quarter and maintains the base Thrift Shop, which is one of their main revenues for scholarship money, according to O’Hara.
“Last year we gave away $6,000 in scholarships,” said O’Hara. “Since August 2016, the program has raised approximately $20,000 between the thrift shop and fundraisers.”
O’Hara also mentioned one of the club’s priorities is helping military families in any way they can.
“Whenever we receive a charitable request, one of our first questions is, ‘How many military members or military families is this going to benefit?’,” O’Hara said.
Renkas added the club has monthly socials and is always welcome to new members.
Those interested in applying for a MOSC scholarship can go online and fill out an application by March 15th.
