KABUL, Afghanistan (March 9, 2017) — The Afghan economy is set for a boost, now that the Afghan National Army has moved to have its uniforms manufactured locally at a new factory.

The Afghanistan-based Baha Trading Company will produce thousands of military uniforms, with a weekly output of 3,750.

“It was not easy but this sewing factory is a phenomenal capability, reducing the time to provide uniforms to the Afghanistan military,” said Clarissa Dziewit, requirements owner for organizational clothing and individual equipment.

The factory will develop capacity within the local commercial sector, create a viable employment program by hiring a local workforce, enable cost savings through reduced production costs, and increase the speed of uniform delivery to the soldiers throughout the unit level, Dziewit explained.

Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan provided 398,000 yards of fabric, the factory layout, and facility accommodations for workers.

“The sewing factory is building needed clothing capacity in Afghanistan and specifically trust in this Afghan workforce to supply military uniforms,” said Thomas A. Lockhart, executive director of CSTC-A’s office of sustainment, known as EF-5.
