JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii—Last week Joint Base Security, lost a valued member of their team. On March 2, 2017 military working dog Riki was euthanized due to progressive incurable illness, surrounded by his trainer and several members of his unit.
Riki was accepted into the military working dog training program at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas in April 2010, where he was certified as a patrol explosives detection dog. The following year, Riki was assigned to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.
During his six-years of service, Riki has responded to multiple incidents, including eight bomb threats, and performed over 200,000 vehicle searches.
