WIESBADEN, Germany -- Are you still using an operating system from the Reagan Administration? Well, Windows 10 (Win10) is here and the 509th Signal Battalion has started upgrading computers across the network to get you ready!

Since Jan. 1, the 509th is using two teams to support the implementation of Win10 and reduce the time it will take to fully roll-out the new system. Along with these two teams, the "Mighty" 509th is working closely with your unit's Information Management Officers (IMOs) across the Vicenza Military Community and U.S. Army Garrison Italy to ensure the Win10 implementation goes smoothly, with minimal interruption to you, our customers. The complete roll out of Win10 is expected to be complete by Sept. 30, 2017.

Win 10 is the latest operating system from Microsoft and was released to the public in 2015. This state-of-the-art operating system has three main benefits for you, the user:

    1. More Security - The threat of cyberattacks and the need for more security is a growing concern for the DoD and the U.S. Army. The adoption of Win10 will help us mitigate some risk. Win10 provides the most advanced and sophisticated operating system available. Win10 will shore up the Army's cyber defenses by integrating powerful cybersecurity technologies directly into the operating system. This helps mitigate many of the common vulnerabilities plaguing our current computer systems.

    2. Familiarity - Microsoft listened to its consumers. Win10 integrates the most popular features of its predecessors. For instance, the start menu is back and better than ever! Most users will find using the new system easy since the difference between Win10 and the current operating system is small. Want to know the exact features of Win10? Visit the Win10 web portal page at www.119.army.mil (CAC required).

    3. More Speed - Compared to Microsoft's previous operating systems, Win10 offers increased speed. This means less wait time to start and boot your computer.

Contact your local S-6 or IMO today to learn when your unit will be transitioning to Win10 and what you need to do to prepare.
